Looking for honest experiences with Teach For Australia (UTP)
Hey all,
I’m hoping to get some insight from anyone who has gone through Teach For Australia’s Undergraduate Teaching Program, or knows people who have.
I’m currently working in a school in Victoria in an education support role. I’ve recently applied for the UTP and my principal has endorsed me, which I’m really grateful for. It feels like a huge opportunity and something I’ve wanted for a long time, but I’m also pretty anxious about the whole process.
A bit of background (kept vague for privacy):
I’ve worked in youth support and education settings for a while, and I’ve realised that teaching is where I want to be long‑term. I didn’t take a traditional uni pathway earlier in life, and financially I can’t just quit work and study full‑time. TFA seems like the only realistic way for me to get qualified while still working in a school.
I’m just wondering:
- How competitive is the UTP?
- What was the interview like?
- What kind of candidates usually get accepted?
- How supported did you feel once you were in the program?
- Anything you wish you knew beforehand?
I’m excited, but also nervous because this pathway would genuinely change my life. Any honest experiences or advice would be really appreciated. I submitted my application fairly quickly (in about two days instead of the recommended 7-14), so I’m hoping that doesn’t work against me.
Thanks in advance.
