Free native trees at Second street Market

Ive made posts recently crowdsourcing funds to be able to buy native lore fruit trees to give out for free like I do every year. People have gone in to cover the cost of trees for themselves to get the bulk price down to give out more trees to other people.

Today and tomorrow, second street market is also giving out free trees. Native trees. A lot of it is stuff I couldn’t get a hold of this year that people were interested in. Redbuds, Hickories, Serviceberry, Sassafras, etc.

Limit two per person.

If you miss it or would still like to get in with me for a free tree or to crowd fund I’m also still doing that.

Update on free native fruit and nut trees

So I made a few days ago about how every year I buy bulk native fruit and nut trees from state native nurseries to plant out around the area in to give away and plant in various public projects.

I let people know moneys a bit tighter than normal and I wasn’t going to be able to afford as many trees as the previous years, but these are bulk trees that are at full price 1.50-3$ a tree, but the more you order the higher the bulk discount. If you order enough the price per tree can go down to as low as .58 per tree and most of these same species at nurseries are at $20-30 if not more.

I asked people l if they would consider going in with me so that everybody could get more trees cheaper. I could get more trees for the same amount of money and they could get trees at the bulk price too. If 10 people put in 10 for ten trees, we all get trees for less. If 100 people did I could half the prices of the trees for everybody.

I had probably close to 100 hundred people message me, many just for a free tree but also many of them to not just go in and get some trees but to chip in on top of it. $5-10, even $20 from a few dozen people starts to add.

I’m currently gotten enough pooled (and I decieded to put off paying my phone bill and student loan payment until the next time Inget paid lol) to get 100 Pawpaw, 100 American plum, 100 American Persimmon, 100 Pecan, 50 black cherry, 25 Swamp white oak 25 Grey flowering dogwood, 25 Crabapple, and 15 Bartlett Pears.

I tried to get back to everyone who messaged or comments but it was a lot of people, so if I didn’t get back to you message or comment again.

If this is the first time you’re seeing this and want a free native fruit or nut tree or want to go in so I can get the price down for everyone that went in and buy more to give away comment or message me.

(the crabapple, pear, dogwood and oak are not at the lowest bulk price yet, and I would love to get even more of the others to give or plant out).

I know this is a free group, that’s why I’m still offering the ones I’m buying for free.

State native nurseries

If you didn’t know, most states have subsidized state tree nurseries that sell bulk trees at $1-10 a piece (price varies by species and how much bulk you buy. American chestnuts for example are $10 but wild plums are $1-1.50 each if you buy 10, but they can be as little as .58¢ each if you buy more than 100).

They mostly carry native trees, but there’s some non natives like crabapples and Bartlett pears. A lot of them are fruit and nut bearing like Pecans, Hickories, Oaks, Hazelnuts, Pawpaws, American Persimmons, Wild Cherry, American Plum, etc

I buy a bunch and plant them out and give them away to neighbors, parks, conservation groups, go out and replace invasives, etc and then just plant the rest wherever I can. Money was a little tighter this year so I was only gonna be able to spend around $100 on trees this year, (I gave out more than 500 last year and planted a hundred more), then I went and posted in a bunch of local facebook groups offering up the trees like I do every year and thought to just offer if anyone wanted to go in on it with me we could both get more trees, cheaper. I ended up crowdsourcing an extra couple hundreds bucks within a few hours, mostly of people wanting 1 or 2 trees and throwing in $10 or $20. I think I’m gonna beat the 500 I gave away last year.

So, if you want some cheap trees to add to some project and want to crowdsource some funds to do it, just steal what I did.
