I had the opportunity of going last year for DiscoverEU and it was truly an unforgettable experience. I wanted to share some tips and advice for any future travelers:
- Always check the app. Any cancellations or delays of trains will show up on the app.
- If a train is cancelled or delayed, take photos of evidence (screenshots, pictures of monitors at station or on trains etc) as you may be entitled to a reimbursement from the DiscoverEU team. Check their faqs and websites
- Try choose direct trains in between destinations when possible. If you have any changeovers, make sure you leave adequate time in between trains. (I chose 30 mins but the safest option would be 1hr)
- If you want to explore as many countries/places as you can (as I did), Benelux and central Europe are great options as they have lots of stuff to do, relatively cheap and easily accessible by train. I personally went to Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Czechia but there are many more countries in Central Europe and Balkans that are good options.
- For inbound and outbound trains/flights, choose destinations that go/fly daily, in case anything goes wrong.
- Maximise your use of travel days.
If you have any questions, I will try to answer them as much as I can.
Most importantly, make sure to have fun and experience the different cultures Europe has to offer!
