As a passionate sports viewer who mainly follows american football and hockey (browns and Canucks fan), while intermittently following baseball (even worse lottery but irrelevant) and basketball, I think i’m done with hockey until they remove the draft lottery. It does nothing to stop tanking and only hurts and blesses teams at random. Did Toronto really need to pick first after missing playoffs 1 time? Did the Sharks need the 2nd for only drafting 1 generational prospect in the last 2 years? Nah the Canucks who suck ass can pick 3rd.

In the 17 draft lotteries that the Canucks have been in, they have stayed put 11 times and dropped 6 times. They have never moved up.

Fuck you Gary Bettman.

Disclaimer: This obviously doesn't apply to all of the players with large draft parties, I do not know their families personally, its only a possibility.

Every time there are large draft parties, with 20-30+ people, including the entire extended family. I get a bit nervous for the player when their name gets called, and everyone starts celebrating like they won the lottery with their phones out, while the player is just taking it all in. I cant help but think some family members are going to expect him to financially support them. I think this every year the draft comes around and the videos come out.

The vibes always seem much better when its just the immediate family, grand parents, some aunts and uncles if they are close with family, close friends and a few teammates.

I may just be too negative.
