Does repeating cuss words in my head count as a violation of the right of speech?
This may be a stupid question, but I have been wondering this.
I have OCD, and a part of me having it means I repeat the things people around me say in my head over and over again. Kids my age (I’m 17), all they do is curse. So, as you can imagine, I repeat these cuss words in my head subconsciously when I hear them because repeating dialogue, things I’m reading, audios, etc. in my head is now a habit because of my OCD.
Does saying cuss words in my head count as a violation of right of speech? Does repeating cuss words/listening to a song with cuss words violate the right of speech as well? Or does it only violate the right of speech if I’m saying them aloud/to other people?
Thanks.
What was Buddha’s perspective on politics? And can Buddhists have political views that align with their morals (but don’t agree with politics)?
Hello all. I hope you guys are doing well.
I’ve been wondering about these two questions quite often, and haven’t been able to get a direct answer.
What was Buddha’s perspective on politics?
And
Can Buddhists have political views, but in reality their political views are really just morals, such as anti-war, anti-terrorism, etc.? Really I just believe in not killing anyone, let alone innocent people, for in this case, political purposes.
If I don’t agree with politics, does that just mean my “political views” are mainly just morals rather than politics?
I also listen to political bands/music, such as Green Day, and I agree with the majority of their songs such as American Idiot and Holiday.
Thanks!
I’ve been applying for jobs and my mom said when I get one I can pay for my cat to get declawed. How do I change her mind?
Hello. I hope you all are doing well.
For a bit of context, we have two cats. One of them (Simba) is my mom’s cat, and the other one (Fluffy) is my cat.
My mom got Simba declawed regardless of my protests and complaining I did. After he got declawed, she realized what that actually meant and felt bad for Simba.
Well.. now she wants to get my cat declawed, and even worse, wants me to pay for it!!! I told her immediately that I refuse to pay for Fluffy to get declawed.
She knows I’m against it. She says she is tired of them scratching up her bed. It’s underneath the bed, so u cant even see it! And they most definitely aren’t doing enough damage to break the bed. I told her why even get a cat if u don’t want them to scratch things. She said “because you guys wanted cats” and I told her if I knew the consequence was going to be getting them declawed, I wouldn’t have even wanted them in the first place.
She also says that since Simba is declawed it’s unfair for Fluffy to not be declawed. Ok… who decided to declaw Simba in the first place after I told you repeatedly that it’s bad and painful for them? Just because Simba is, unfortunately, declawed doesn’t mean you declaw another cat!!
Declawing is so inhumane and cruel. It’s even illegal in my state! (Illinois, I just found out it was illegal while I was writing this post, so I’m going to tell my mom that).
Is there anything I can do to change my mom’s mind? I’m only 17 so I can’t move out yet, and I don’t even have a job (I’ve been actively trying to get one), so what I can do is limited. I really don’t want to give away my cat. He’s my whole world and I love him and he loves me. Both of us would be devastated without each other.
Thanks! (Here is a picture of Fluffy below munching on his favorite thing: food).
Edit: We have already tried nail caps. The cats rip them off with their teeth.
Edit: Declawing is actually not illegal in Illinois yet. The ban is still pending.
Edit (and hopefully the last): I told her what you guys have been saying how it’s equivalent to cutting your fingers off at the knuckle. She said “I know” so I said why would u want to do that to a cat then and she said “I’m not gonna argue with u” I’m genuinely considered rehoming him as the last resort but I’d hate to rip him away from me let alone his brother.
She also said “if ur not paying for getting him declawed then he’s my cat afterwards.” Like where is the purpose in that? We got fluffy as an emotional support animal for my mental health?
So ur gonna mutilate my cat and now take away my emotional support animal that is critical for my mental health?
Will this result in bad karma? Is this against the rules of Buddhism?
Hello. I hope you all are doing well.
I could not figure out how to word this in the title, so I am going to say it in the description.
I have two family cats. One of them is my mom’s cat, and one of them is my cat. My mom declawed her cat, which I am highly against. I do not support this in any way, shape, or form, because it is torture and mutilation to the animal.
Now my mom wants to get my cat declawed, and even worse, wants me to get a job (I’ve been trying to in general to get a car, etc.) in order for me to pay for my cat getting declawed!!
It’s unbelievable to me. I do not want my cat declawed at all, but I’m only 17, so I am not an adult and don’t really have a say. I told her I refuse to pay for my cat to get declawed, because it is animal cruelty.
So, I told her she can pay for the surgery to declaw my cat, and I’ll make up for the money by buying cat food, treats, etc.
Does this count as me harming an animal even though I’m not directly doing it (paying for the surgery)?
Does it count as me paying for it since I will be compensating by buying cat food?
I know it is highly prohibited to harm any living thing in Buddhism, which is why I am asking this question in the Buddhism sub instead of a cat sub (which I might post there as well for advice on how to change my moms mind about declawing).
Thanks!
