GMC rear differential magnet
2019 GMC Yukon Denali
Changed rear diff fluid. There was a donut magnet in a little recess at the bottom of the housing (in addition to fill plug magnet). The magnet wouldn’t move or come out with my fingers so I pulled it out with a little screwdriver for cleaning. Took very little effort to pry it up. I cleaned and put it back in its recess and finished everything up. The recess is not tight fitting to the magnet so as to hold it tight.
Now I’m reading online that the magnet was held in place by a mild adhesive. Not sure if that was just for help during factory assembly or if adhesive is needed during use. Do I have a real risk of the magnet coming loose and finding its way into my gears? It’s not a super strong magnet but not sure I see it bouncing free from hitting a pothole or something.
Am I right to be worried? I really don’t want to redo the job and then source an appropriate adhesive and let it cure before refilling.
Anyone ever put the magnet back without adhesive?
