Tips for a 6 month polydactyl MC

I just adopted my sweet boy Zeppelin 2 days ago (his name was Orbit before so I go in between calling him both names). He’s a 6 month old polydactyl MC with 24 toe beans - 6 on every paw. He’s a total sweetheart but he is also a tyrant and unbelievably clumsy. He can’t get traction on his huge back feet so he slides across the floors and surfaces like a wrecking ball. He also scares me constantly bc of his climbing skills and inability to handle his clunky feet.

I need your best tips for keeping an MC kitten entertained while I work from home during the day. This is my first MC and I got him after a very tough month and half depression when I lost my 8 yo soul cat to very aggressive cancer. I wasn’t going to get another cat so soon but I live alone and the loneliness and lack of purpose was overwhelming.

It’s been quite a while since I had a kitten and I was quickly reminded of what it was like to be covered in scratches at all times. My last cat was an only child but I don’t know if Zep will do as well alone (even though I’m home all day every day). Do you have any recommendations for toys that will keep him busy while I’m working or help burn his energy? And do MCs do better with other cats or alone?

For polys specifically, would love to hear what to expect with these paddle-footed guys. When do they get less clumsy? I’ve noticed him already trying to grab plates of food - but honestly he grabs everything like he has human hands. He can also kick the hell outta that litter. I’m working him up from an open box to a top entry box but he’s still new to the home so I can’t make the switch yet. I want to get an automatic box but I don’t know if those prevent his ability to kick the litter out. Points if anyone has tips on clipping all these nails when the purrito aint cutting it.
