wondering if I can meet my sign up bonus (spend $x in x months) by buying silver/gold.

does anyone know if this is a valid strategy? I read a bit about how it may be reported to my cc company but do my purchases get that granular, especially if buying online?

wouldn't the statement charge just show up as Costco? (as in, a general retailer?)
