Linkedin network when looking for a job

There have been multiple posts recently stating that network/ex-colleagues have been mostly useless. Now I am not talking about close connections aka family/friends, but folks you worked with in the same company, who at least have heard your name (or with whom you have common reputable connections) and whom you likely helped in some way more than once, potentially even your team mates who suddenly go cold turkey when you ask them for referral or insights.

Network nowadays is likely most reliable way to get a job, so why people are like that? Especially in times like now, when their livelihood might depend on it? We already have everything stacked against us, so why not help fellow engineer? Is it specific to our industry cause we have tons of introverts and self-centered folks?

If you are such person ghosting your ex-colleagues, why?

What did you do with your RRSP/TFSA? Are there analogues in Spain?

Did you close all credit cards?

What platforms do you use for investments in Spain?

What banks do you recommend?

Do you handle taxes yourself (I always do myself here) or use third party (any recs)?

Thanks!

Gave emergency key as demanded by property management, few years after property management changed, their new system shows they have no key for my unit (old didn’t have such system at all). When asked to verify whether it is data issue or key was lost - they refuse saying this is not their responsibility to verify anything and they have more urgent issues. And refusing to provide any trace record of key access or confirm it was lost.

Are they responsible for replacing the key as this creates immediate security concern?

Also are they liable for negligence?

I was rewatching Meryl and Anne raving about how much they love Gaga and was wondering why they never attended any of Mayhem NY concerts? Or maybe they did and we don’t know? Or Mark Ronson (who is also Meryl’s son in law and likely gave her Gaga’s number😂)? Do they not care enough to attend one of her concerts?

Anyway just curious what celebrities did attend her concerts over the years. I am aware of Bradley (with Todd Phillips), Celine Dion, Tom Cruise, Weeknd, Chappell Roan/Olivia Rodrigo, Katy Perry. Anyone else?

Hey guys, just hoping for ideas or personal stories of those starting investing late.

I am not doing too bad, but way behind. SINK, age 45, 100k equity in home, 150k salary, 10k emergency, no other debt, no other support.

How to catch up? I wouldn’t mind working till 70, but my biggest worry is I am in IT and with AI/ageism/outsourcing etc I don’t know how many earning years I have left. I feel like I am one layoff away from being homeless.

Anyone in similar situation? Also maybe there are any backup careers that do not have ageism I could try pivoting to?

Thanks for understanding, trying not to panic but it get’s harder day by day.

Hey guys, our condo board just mandated air duct cleaning (bundled with dryer vent cleaning) every five years. Isn’t it kind of redundant in condo? What confuses me is that I understand that not cleaning dryer vents can cause fire so it should be mandatory, but air vents are mainly about air quality so why are they mandating it?!

Anyone who had their air vents cleaned professionally - what is the process exactly in condo (15 yoe high rise)? How messy does it get? Do they clean it from single point of entry ( vent near condo entrance or from balcony) or do they remove every vent cover in every room?! Do I have to move my furniture/cover it? My vents seem pretty clean from the outside, I don’t smoke/have animals etc.

My worry is they will make more mess/disturbance with their air vents cleaning than benefit I will get. Also last time dryer vent cleaning was done from the balcony they dragged their huge machine across my hardwood floors (not covering them) and scratched them and nearly broke my glass balcony door.

Is there way to make this cleaning least invasive/messy?
