I'm replaying the game 10 years after my first and only playthrough, and find it really weird that the second chapter is just replaying missions with different rules ([EXTREME], [SUBSISTANCE], etc), appart from a few missions that are actually new.

Was this because Konami and Kojima were in fights about the game or it was intended to be this way? Did they cut new missions and added those instead? I'm forcing myself to complete them, but it just doesn't feel right, this kind of "alternative rules" thing should be optional and not "main missions".
