Just got the bad news that I need a head gasket repair on the rig. Dealer quoted $7k for: head gasket repair, new water pump, serpentine belt, plugs + wires, and transmission fluid exchange. I’m sure I could shop around and find a bit cheaper repair cost, but $5k v $7k doesn’t really move the needle that much.

I’ve decided that I’m going to fix it, too much invested into already: new paint in 2019, suspension has less than 10k miles on it, plus some others, and the frame is mint.

My question is - did anyone else in this position explore buying a new/remanufactured engine instead of a head gasket repair?

Cost wise it doesn’t appear to be that much more to fully swap the engine. Am I crazy to think about an engine swap?
