Pulled my credit report last week and found a private student loan for $7,400 in collections. Two years old. I moved twice and changed emails and genuinely lost track of it.

Can I settle for less than the full amount? Will paying it help my credit at this point or is the damage already done? Should I contact the collector directly or get someone else involved?

Completely lost on where to start.
