Flooring suggestion for sunken living room

I currently have regular pile beige carpeting in my sunken living room, but it’s 14 years old and I’m looking to upgrade. I am thinking of going with hardwood flooring or some type of carpeting.

The hallway and kitchen area adjacent to this living area has darker hardwood flooring. I don’t know if I should match that area and use a colored carpet on it or go with some sort of different wall to wall carpeting.

Thank you for any input or guidance.

If I qualify for military, is the loyalty + lease credit still $2000 or did that change in May? Also, Are the numbers better for 39 mo vs 36 mo?

When I see pictures of pools with travertine coping and travertine tiles for pool decking there is no large gap or unsightly deck-o-seal line, why is that? I thought the somewhat wide 1/2 " or so gap is necessary although not pretty .

Currently seeking coping/tile reno quotes in NJ and a couple suggested biting the bullet for plaster since it's almost 15 years old. It's 3M colorscapes quartz plaster. It's still covered so these suggestions are time based not visual. No leaks, few organic stains and minor discoloration here and there but otherwise fine.
