TL:DR: How easy is it to ruin sport leather gloves?

I have a pair of white Maverik M6 lacrosse gloves I really like for impact absorption and flexibility but not the color. Use is for SCA part larp part actual combat. Can I use Warhammer 40k miniature paint to achieve an aged, worn steel look?

Plan: priming with isopropyl alcohol, scuffing with fine-grit sandpaper, spraying with canned primer, painting with thin layers of black (depth), gunmetal (metal), brown wash (antiquing), and lastly silver (sheen). Then sealing with 3 coats of satin fabric finish.

I will wear a mask in an open area for priming and sealing.

Does vinyl vs leather primer matter? Does fabric vs leather finish matter? Satin vs matte finish?
