What is the best cheap "car person" car in your opinion? Let's say sub 5k to be on an even playing field.

My pick would easily be any straight six BMW Z4, preferably the 2.5i or 3.0i. I can say from experience that they are just amazing cars, especially for the prices they are now at! I've personally had a 2004 2.5i Z4 for about 15 years. Always maliciously cared for it, and has never set a foot wrong, currently at 96,000 miles. Seriously, one of these with some good suspension and tires will make an awesome car!
