I'm in the Indiana reddit group and there's so much negativity from residents...it's all hate. My husband and I are looking at moving to NWI (Crown Point or Valparaiso) area. We recently visited the area and really enjoyed the access to the Lake, Chicago and Western Michigan. The school systems also seem ideal, it's a family friendly area and somewhat affordable. We're coming from TN (although we grew up in the Midwest) which we're now priced out of. Nowhere is perfect, but what am I missing? Should we not move here?
