Dacia Sandero Stepway 2017 0.9 TCe 90 – reliable long term or risky engine?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently considering buying a Dacia Sandero Stepway 2 (2017) with the 0.9 TCe 90 engine (3-cylinder, manual), around 85,000 km, and it has been well maintained by its previous owner.

Before going for it, I wanted to get some honest feedback from people who own or have owned this car.

I’ve seen quite a few discussions online mentioning potential issues, especially with:

- timing chain problems (stretching, tensioner issues)

- oil consumption

- general engine reliability over time

So I’m wondering:

- How reliable is this engine in real-world use?

- Have you experienced any major issues?

- Would you recommend it for long-term ownership (5–10 years)?

My usage would be mostly regular 1-hour trips on national roads (not much city driving).

Any feedback or real-life experience would be really appreciated 🙏
