I added a full reading library to my vocabulary app — tap any word to see its meaning instantly

One thing I always struggled with: learning vocabulary in isolation. Words stick better when you see them in context.

So I built a reading library into Colt with 100+ classic books. Here’s how it works:

•	Tap any word → instant translation appears

•	Save words to favorites → practice them later

•	Download books → read offline anytime

•	Background music → focus mode while reading

It’s like having a dictionary built into your book, but instead of breaking your flow, it just shows the meaning and lets you keep reading.

I built a vocabulary app that actually makes words stick — here’s how it works

Most vocabulary apps just show you a word and ask you to memorize it. That never worked for me.

So I built Colt around a 3-step learning loop:

See it — Every word comes with an image and a real example sentence. Your brain connects the word to a visual, not just a definition.

Test it — Multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank quizzes right after. No passive scrolling, you actually have to recall the word.

Master it — Spelling practice to lock it in long-term memory. Spaced repetition makes sure you review it at the right time.

You can also read classic books and tap any word for an instant translation — then add it to your practice list.

It’s free to download. Would love feedback from fellow language learners.

I couldn’t find a free app that let me read books and learn vocabulary at the same time, so I built one

I’ve been trying to learn German for a while. I wanted an app where I could read real books, tap on words I don’t know, and actually practice them later — not just flashcards in isolation.

Couldn’t find anything that did all of this for free, so I spent the last few months building it myself.

It’s called Colt. You can read classic books, tap any word for an instant translation, save words to favorites, and then practice them with flashcards. Audiobooks too.

It’s free to use. Would love to hear what you think — especially from fellow language learners.

I was tired of boring flashcard apps, so I spent 4 months building a vocabulary tool that uses context, audiobooks, and instant lookups.

Hi everyone,

I’ve tried dozens of language apps, but most of them felt like a never-ending cycle of boring flashcards. I felt like I was memorizing words but never actually "learning" how to use them.

So, I built Colt. 🦊

My goal was to move away from dry memorization and focus on context. Here is how I’m trying to bridge that gap:

• Instant Context Lookups: This is my favorite part. While reading a book in the app, you can just tap any word to see its translation and meaning instantly. No more switching to a dictionary app and losing your flow.

• Integrated Audiobooks: You can read and listen to books tailored to your level (A1 to C1) right inside the app.

• Visual Learning: Every word is paired with AI-generated images and example phrases.

• Smart Repetition: Uses a spaced repetition algorithm to make sure you never forget what you've learned.

It’s my first indie project and I’m looking for some honest feedback. What do you think of the UI/UX?
