Need help—any low-cost or free orthodontist options for brace removal?
Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a tough situation and was hoping someone might have advice or know of any resources.
I got braces about 5 years ago when I was working full-time in another state and had dental insurance. Since then, I decided to go back to college to pursue my goal of becoming a doctor, which meant leaving my job and losing my dental coverage.
Right now, all of my income goes toward tuition, housing, and basic living expenses, and I genuinely don’t have extra money to continue orthodontic treatment. I’ve already spoken with my orthodontist and plan to pause treatment until I graduate next year May and can afford to continue later.
The issue is that my braces are starting to cause problems—my wires are breaking, poking into my gums, and causing bleeding and pain. I tried going to a clinic to just have them removed, but I was quoted over $1000, which is completely out of reach for me right now.
At this point, I’m just trying to:
- Get the braces removed safely
Does anyone know of:
- Clinics or orthodontists that offer free or very low-cost removal,
- Dental schools or programs that might help, or
- Any resources for someone in my situation?
I’d really appreciate any advice or leads. This has been super stressful, and I just want to prevent further damage while I finish school.
Thank you so much 🙏
