Question about Darkness Falls \ Looking for the right Overhaul for my playthrough.

I'm firing up 7 Days to Die after a long hiatus from the game. I'm starting a new solo run and trying to find the right overhaul mod for what I'm looking for.
I'm wanting a tough more survival driven experience (Think Project Zomboid) but I'm turning Blood Moon off. I always hated the idea that you could be hunted down no matter where you hid and I just never liked that mechanic.
Trying to find an overhaul that makes up for it with roaming zombies and even raiders so the threat stays present. Also looking for something with NPC's you can hire or bring to your base.
I've heard good things about Rebirth but I've also heard great things about Darkness Falls.
Rebirth has a Wiki where I can dive deeper into the mechanics, but does Darkness Falls also have NPC you can hire, or roaming raiders?
