Day 3 and 4 with the Dream Air
You may have seen my other two posts, I didn't get a chance to post yesterday, I've basically been taking all my free time and trying to fix my problems. I've mostly eliminated possibilities. I did get my quest 3 working again though, the virtual desktop output somehow got disabled in the device manager. So I cleas able to compare the two for tracking and freezes.
Day 3
- I updated my BIOS and reset my CMOS, switched to using pimax play. This didn't make a difference
- I submitted logs through pimax play, but today got a response back that they needed more information about what I was doing while the logs were taken
Event viewer
- I got tired of trying to debug stuff and just wanted to see what a bunch of games look like. So I played some dungeons of eternity, kayak VR, beatsaber, exd and of lies and rain.
- they would all have some freezes here and there but nothing consistent like HL Alyx.
- boy did they look amazing though, the screens on this thing rock
- I need to figure out what's wrong with my PC
Day 4
- switched to pimax openxr instead of steamvr to see if it made a difference for anything, it didn't.
- I submitted more logs of tracking problems. One in steamvr and one in the pimax home environment
- Got quest 3 working, virtual desktop was disabled in device manager as a monitor output
- Quest 3 tracking was way smoother than my headset and controller tracking via lighthouse (so something is wrong with my setup)
- Quest 3 froze every 30 seconds on the dot in HL Alyx as well, so points away from anything lighthouse / pimax related (This is the outcome I was expecting, but was nice to verify)
- I put the quest 3 remotes down on my desk and stared at them close up for a minute, buttery smooth tracking
- I then switched to the dream air and index controller tracking and put the index controllers down on my desk and they jittered around constantly, mostly within maybe a centimeter, but bigger jumps sometimes too
- i thought maybe one base station was bad so I disabled one and tried the tracking test with that base station only, then tried the other, there was no difference
- this makes me think something is wrong with my setup since these same tracking issues happened when having the controllers connected directly to steamvr, and the freezing every 30 seconds happens with both quest 3 and dream air
Stuff I'm going to try later today or tomorrow:
- remove any quest software on the PC in case there is like the oculus debug tool interfering or something
- clear my CMOS again
- doing a windows repair fresh install of windows
- doing a complete full fresh install of windows if the above doesn't work
Anyone have any other ideas? Any tools that would help me debug the freeze that happens every 30 seconds? There has to be something out there that would help debug that.
Basically I happy with the headset itself and it's visuals, minus the facial interface is kinda mid. And I'm really unhappy with my computer problems...
