LARP Experience Needed

Whats missing from your events?

Greetings,

Been in the Civil War Reenacting Hobby 22(ish)yrs now and I think most of us are looking for something "different". I tend to stay on the Progressive (authentic) side of things, but have no hate for any side of the hobby. With numbers and events shrinking I got an idea.

I'm working on a new type of event never tried before (as far as I'm aware) in OUR hobby. A cross between Living History, Reenacting & LARP all FOR reenactors!! 100% fully immersive, theatrical, economic, historical and result/experience driven.

In airsoft, LARP (Fallout, Wasteland, Weird and Wild West etc.) there are working economics, "in-game" shops etc supported by registration fees and in-game currency. There are events within events creating a living breathing world. There are participants that have "jobs" vs sitting around a campfire BSing etc.

I want to try this in OUR hobby as well. A REASON to use kit and knowledges we don't normally get to use. Civilians DOING civilian things, craftspeople doing crafts. These and others are creating meaningful real-world interactions. Proper use of tactics in real-world scenarios, these outcomes would have ongoing consequences through the event or beyond (if there's continuing chapters).

Ex. Protecting a settlement of refugees. Travelling sutlers, wagon train whatever. Those individuals are able to assist in possible ways later. The participants can interact as little or as much as they want, no pressure.

I get this is a new concept for ACW and it'll take work, but hipefully there are Groups out there knowledgeable that do this frequently and are a willing resource. There are locations underutilized just BEGGING for usage.

What do you think about this idea? What are you missing from our current events/hobby in general?! What do YOU want from events? Suggestions?

Many thanks in advance.

Scabbard needed!

I posted this the other week and am contemplating grinding out the weld. I'd like to get a scabbard for it if possible though too. It doesn't fit any of the scabbards I have currently. Suggestions?

Rewatching Sharpe's Eagle (I have the book coming). I have question.

spoilers When Richard leaves the Eagle at the end of the Episode, wouldn't that have been important and actually returned to the Depot that the South Essex calls "home"?

I feel like a Quartermaster (NOT QM Sharpe) or some Brigade Clerk would pick that up as soon as Richard is "over the mountain and far-away" and send it back to HQ etc.

What was the practice regarding trophies like that then?

Thanks.

Im looking for one, preferably a repro if possible. Maybe something similar in a repro I can "tweak"/grind out for the same look? Ideas?

1860s Cavalry Saber needs a scabbard

So grabbed this of FB marketplace for $20. It's clearly been broken and "mended".

  1. Is it missing any length?

  2. Should I grind out the weld and try to make it close to original?

  3. It didnt have a scabbard, & the repro I have the scabbard isn't curved enough to use.

  4. Should I clean it up w/ tust remover etc?

  5. As a reenactor Officer I'd love to use it, seeing as it's already messed up... the valuenis extremely low, but I can still appreciate it's history.
