Today I was informed by a research center at my local university that they wanted to give me an award for articles I written. Apparently my reporting on higher education, state and regional politics has been useful in their research.

I am unsure I can accept the award though because I have previously quoted the center's director and several of its other members. However, I am no longer in the position or even at the same outlet as I was when I wrote the articles they are wanting to award me for.

Would it be unethical for me to accept the award? It also comes with a cash prize, which I am even more hesitant about.
