New prescription sunglasses causing eye strain

New prescription sunglasses causing eye strain

I just picked up my new spectacles and my new sunglasses from Boots Optical. The spectacles lenses are 1.76 refractive index. They feel good. I already have forgotten that I’m wearing them!

At the same time I picked up my new sunglasses. Polarised, lenses 1.67 refractive index. My eyes feel strained when I look through them. I get double vision when I look left or right, especially right. The optician said she’ll call me in a week to see if it’s still a problem.

What could the problem be, and what should I do?

Best live sound recording setup?

I am a standup and improv comedian. I usually perform in really poor lighting (such as pubs), with a handheld microphone amplified through a mixing desk into two speakers at the front of the stage that face the audience. I want to record these performances (both video and audio).

I have tried recording video on my Samsung Galaxy phone from the audience area. The audio (recorded by my phone after coming out of the speakers and travelling through the air, mixed with audience chatter) is completely unintelligible. I must have a better system of recording audio.

Also, the images are grainy. What I really want is a proper video camera that can handle low light conditions. But if a decent camera would be too expensive, I could learn to live with the poor images.

Do I need to buy an audio recording device that takes XLR/phono input and give it to the audio mixing operator before my performance? Do I wear a lapel mic and connect it to a recording device that I keep in my pocket? Do I buy a cheap video camera that is rated for low light?

Recording the audio/video separately and syncing them later is no problem. I know how to do that.

I'm happy to spend £500.

Which database software do I need?

I have a Windows 11 machine. I want to create a database which contains records sorted by date. For each date, I will have a text file, and a video that could be 1 or 2 gigabytes. The resulting file will be in the order of a terabyte. I am the only person who will ever use this database. Which free or cheap software do I need to create and use this database?
