Americans trying to use US dollars in Europe

I wanted to get people’s opinions on this. I am a tour guide in France who has a primarily American clientele. I do get other English speaking countries though like Canada and Australia. Often we receive tips which I am grateful for as it’s not necessary in France, but sometimes Americans give me US dollars as a tip which I find frustrating, as they are mostly useless in the EU, unless I exchange them where I will lose a part of the value. I find it astounding to travel to another country and assume that your currency is as valued or even more valuable than the local one. Once I even had a client who was annoyed to find out that he couldn’t pay for his lunch with US dollars. The Canadians or Australians never do this, they always come with euros. Am I being ungrateful? I should make a separate post of all the things Americans say to me as a tour guide in France 😆
