Starter - update.

As per everyone's suggestions, checked voltages and changed plugs. Ended up taking the starter out, which was actually quite easy. it wouldn't crank with a charged battery, so stripped it and I think I found the reason for the weak/failure to start. See pics, but the magnets were cracked and worn and the housing was full of black dust. The brushes (to my untrained eye) don't seem too bad, but the coil looks in bad shape. I've ordered a new starter. just out of interest, is this just age, or is there something more sinister in play that caused this? Do I need to look at anything else.

Thank you all for your support.

ER6n - is my next move the starter?

Bike is broken. Money is tight and I need the bike, so any help is greatly appreciated.

2013 ER6n ABS. Starting has been getting progressively weaker over the last few months, to the point where I need to jump it to get it going. Once started, it runs fine, but if I stop it I have to jump again.

I have very limited knowledge, but I've been using the service manual/YouTube/Google to diagnose. Here's where I'm at...

Voltage across the battery is strong when the engine is running, so I assume the alternator/charging circuit is OK.

I bought a new battery, fully charged and the problem still exists.

I tested the starter relay and it seems to be functioning as expected.

I took off the tank and air box to look at the plugs and they seem to be clean and working as expected.

So... is my next 'port of call' the starter? I've got this deep, so I don't mind dropping the coolant and taking off the throttle assembly to take the starter out.

I can get a new starter for less than 50GBP, so no big deal, but appreciate any advice before throwing a few more hours at it. Or any other recommendations that I've overlooked in my ignorance?

Thanks for any help. 👍🏼
