Badminton livestreaming camera
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to upgrade my badminton livestreaming setup and would really appreciate some advice from people with experience.
Right now my setup is very simple:
- iPhone 14 Pro as the main camera (via DroidCam over USB)
- Rode Wireless GO II for court audio
- Jabra headset for commentary
- OBS on a MacBook M4 Pro
- Uno overlays for live scoring
- A monitor behind the court with Chromecast showing the scoreboard
It works reasonably well, but my long‑term quality goal is something close to the Sudirman Cup 2019 broadcast look. Obviously, I know that’s a very high bar.
The main challenge is that most of my streams are done in small school sports halls, not large arenas. From what I understand, that broadcast‑style look usually requires the main camera to be placed far behind the court, fairly high, and to use strong optical zoom — which is often simply not possible in smaller venues.
At a minimum, I’d like to reliably achieve:
- Full‑court framing in 1080p60
- With a possible upgrade to 4K60 in the future (assuming my internet can handle the bitrate)
That’s why I’m reaching out here:
- What do you use for badminton livestreaming?
- What camera + lens setups work well in tight halls?
I’m currently looking at Blackmagic Studio Cameras (Studio Micro, Studio Camera Plus, Pro 4K, Pro 6K), but I’m unsure which lenses would realistically meet my requirements for full‑court framing, image quality, and flexibility in limited space.
Any real‑world experiences, recommendations, or warnings would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
