For context, i’m 80% disabled and don’t personally have health insurance because i just use the VA. I have a baby due at the end of the year so i’m scrambling to figure out how health insurance works because i’ve never actually had my own. i gross around 100k a year so i don’t believe i qualify for any government assistance programs. Also, my employer doesn’t offer health insurance.

So that leads me to the question of what are yall doing for health insurance for your kiddos? do i have to cough up the hundreds every month plus whatever the deductible is or is there any programs or something?

I’ve considered taking the loss on my disability and just joining the reserves and paying for tricare but i dont exactly want the threat of being deployed in my life again especially now that im settling down.

Any advice would be great

I ETSed in Dec25 as an e5 and was given 80% disability from the VA. My question is, i have a little girl on the way and although i have a good paying civilian job there isnt any health insurance. Ive been skimming the internet for the cost of insurance for just one kid and it’s still looking like 2-400 a month plus whatever deductible. Would it be worth it joining the reserves knowing that i’ll basically be volunteering because i can’t collect drill pay and disability pay at the same time?

Also, i have no interest in deploying at all. This might be a dumb question especially for someone who was AD but is there a way to just never be voluntold for deployment?
