Hiring process for office/non-exempt union roles
Hey everyone,
I recently interviewed for an office-based, non-exempt union role with Alberta Health Services and I’m trying to get a better sense of how their hiring process actually works behind the scenes.
A few things I’m curious about:
How long does it usually take to hear back after final interviews?
Do they tend to prioritize internal candidates over external?
What’s going on during that “waiting” period (approvals, HR, etc.)?
Is it normal for it to take several days even if they already know who they want?
I’ve heard public sector hiring can be a bit slower/more structured, but would love to hear real experiences from people who’ve been through it.
Thanks in advance 🙏
