AVA Law Update 5/8/2026
We are writing to you today with an update on your claim against the Boy Scouts of America. This week, we received updated numbers from the Trust regarding how many claims are left to be determined. According to the Trust as of May 1, 2026, the Trust has 58,073 claims in the primary claim-review category and has determined 54,887 of them. That means approximately 3,186 claims remain to be determined.
So what does that mean? Well, it means that the Trustee still needs to get through the remaining claims to determine what the total amount of allowed claims is across the general trust claims. And, as you know from previous updates, this is a number that we need to know in advance of any further percentage distributions.
We also know that we have a hearing in June on the future claims dispute and how much money needs to be held back out of the general trust funds received to date. That number, combined with the total amount of allowed claims after the Trustee finishes reviewing the remaining claims, will determine the next distribution percentage.
I know that it is beyond frustrating to continue to wait in what has already been a very long process to get to this point. But the good news is, every day we are getting closer to knowing those numbers, and sometime this summer, we will have answers to those questions and know what the future holds in terms of additional percentages paid out on the existing money.
We also continue to see progress on the unsettled insurance policies. It has been reported that a few insurers have settled their policies. These are smaller carriers with limited exposure, but it is starting the trend in the right direction. I say that because these insurers have held out for six years now on paying out on their policies, and although the numbers likely are not large, they have finally capitulated and settled. This is one of the last remaining obstacles to finalizing your case: having all insurance policies settle and seeing those proceeds flow into the Trust.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this email. I wish you a very pleasant weekend and look forward to sending you another update next week.
