Salon switching to Phorest

In the staff setup guide it mentions when a client pays for a service they can leave a tip using the phorestpay terminal. If they decide to tip for example $10 a 50cent transaction fee is automatically covered by the client. If the client doesn't pay the fee, the staff member gets 9.50 instead of 10 due to the unpaid fee.
Is that legal in BC for a third party service to take transaction fee out of the stylist tip? It's not my employer that be doing it's the new Phorest third party program they are enrolling in that is taking the fee?
Just curious so I can bring it up in the meeting about the new program?
