Needing feedback for my impressionistic game artstyle
I'm currently trying to figure out an artstyle for my videogame, and I want to aim for a three-dimensional impressionistic style, with inspirations drawn from the great impressionistic artists/era, primarily Monet, Van Gogh and Sisley. The scene shown here is inspired from a painting by Monet.
The game itself mostly happens inside Diorama-esque scenes (image two) with the full scene (other images) being unlocked as a kind of reward after the level has been solved.
I'm aware that this artstyle is very experimental, at the same time I'm betting a lot of the appeal of my game on it, so I need it to be very visually interesting/pleasant to look at. Right now, I unfortunately only have this single scene to show at the moment, but I hope it's enough to generalize the artstyle from it.
My main questions are:
- Just from a first look, is this artstyle identifiable as something impressionistic?
- Also from a first look, does this artstyle look aesthetically pleasent/have a certain appeal?
- I'm struggeling a lot with contrast, colors and light. The image seems kinda flat to me while also being very saturated at the same time. How could I improve there?
- Can you see/identify the brushstrokes, or do they just look like a noisy mess?
- In the diorama, does it still look like a (partial) painting to you?
- What about the scene composition itself? Is there something I'm missing (more details, more visual anchorpoints)?
But also apart from these questions I'm happy to receive any kind of honest feedback on how I could improve this style. Thank you very much for your time!
