I’m a second-year student who just completed my second year, and I recently received notice that I’ve been placed on academic suspension. This year didn’t go the way I planned. In my first semester, I took on too many courses, got overwhelmed, and ended up dropping a couple. In the following semester, I tried to recover but still struggled, and my grades didn’t improve as much as I needed. Looking back, I realize I didn’t manage my workload or my mental health well, and I also didn’t take advantage of the academic supports that were available.

Right now, I’m trying to figure out my next steps. I know I have the option to submit an academic standing appeal, but I’m not sure if I should submit it right away or reach out to an academic advisor first. Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully appealed? Any advice on what helped your case or what I should focus on would really mean a lot.
