I've spent the half my life digging around and reading into the cultural history of French football. Here are 5 books I found available in English that are distinctly written for an English speaking readership but I think would pass the sniff test for hardcore French fans too...

Would love to hear any further suggestions from our wide knowledge of French football culture from redditors on the r/Ligue1 sub.

What am I missing? Are there any legendary French-only books (like the Cahiers du Football stuff) that desperately need an English translation? Or any deep-dives on the Saint-Étienne or Lyon glory years that I should track down?

I've been watching a lot of Lens's games this season and have been hugely impressed by this team....

But there's a lot more to this football club than what happens on the pitch.

RC Lens is a passionate football club deeply rooted in the working-class mining heritage of northern France. Its fans, stadium, and symbols proudly celebrate the region's tough industrial history and strong community spirit.

And the mining heritage of the Lens region in northern France's Pas-de-Calais department is a proud part of France's great industrial history. So I thought I'd write up an article for my Le Foot blog about the club's historic relationship with the local miners and mining industry.....
