The problem of this arc is not powerscaling, is matchup distribution "[discussion]"

I'm tired of people saying that the ones complaining about the manga just care about powerscaling when the arc clearly has serious narrative problems, and the worst of them is matchup distribution.

Since the arc started the Fire and Flame guild was introduced and was suggested to be the main villain group in the arc, but what happened to them? They were turned into jokes because they were defeated easily in a group fight, but what was the point of that? Even if Hiro felt that they the protagonist were too strong for them, he could have gave them as matchups for other characters like Team B, Oracion Seis or even Diabolos who were forgotten in this arc. There was no pointing on trashing them.

Oracion Sechs matchups feel more pointless than ever now. Hiro firstly put Oracion Seis to fight which seemed to be an interesting route, but then he made most of them lose just to give them Team B. Midnight lost was the most forced, and Gajeel instead of stealing his fight could have fought Viernes instead, you know metallic dragon vs metallic dragon slayer, no need for fight being stolen if you had planning for the arc. Gate fight is pointless if Juvia gets a fight again in the arc, it feels like she stole Meredy fight for nothing. Same thing with Mira if she defeats Scissor Runner, Daemon fight will be pointless ad there will be no reason for Angel to not have defeated her.

About the Calamity Bloods, a whole group of villains being introduced in middle of an arc is already narratively bad no matter how much you want to defend. It doesn't matter if they are past villains, it feels that they came out of nowhere, they won't get enough time for a better development and their fights can be rushed. 3 of them i can already say that are pointless fights that are just stalling the plot. Earthbuild beating Lucy and Wendy just to be the 100th victim of Natsu don't adds nothing to the plot, Human Igneel could have just appeared in beta heaven instead of misleading power levels. I already talked about Juvia and Mirajane fighting again makes Oracion Sechs fights pointless, and even if Mira is hypetooled by Scissor Runner, who is gonna beat him, Gajeel? So he stole Zero from Midnight for absolutely nothing ? These Calamity Bloods could easily have been Diabolos matchups, no reason for them to not be, what was the point of them being dragons then? Some are even saying that Hiro is deciding matchups based on fans complain on twitter which is absolutely terrible if it's true.

You see, i didn't even needed to talk about how egregious it was powerscaling wise for Dragon Gods to return at full power, just mentioning that exist another villain group beyond these other 3 already shows that this arc is mess with no planning, with you say this arc had any minimal planning you are just coping hard. As for their matchups distribution i already said that Gajeel should have fought him, but honestly it should have been in the previous arc to not turn this arc into a mess with excess of villains that are poorly used.

You know that the matchup distribution is horrible when Natsu got 6 fights in this arc and will get at least one more against Ignia. From these fights two of them were matchups he stolen, Wed and Earthbuild, what was the point of Natsu stealing 2 fights if he already had so many and if there are so many underused characters in this arc?

Gray vs Gajeel through the series, serious analasis "[discussion]"

Someone made a really bad analysis before so i'm gonna make a serious one.

Phantom Lord: Gajeel>Gray

Both Gajeel and Natsu were portrayed to be above Gray. Gajeel was the strongest Phantom Lord mage outside of Jose, so he was stronger than Aria. Aria almost defeated Natsu who needed Erza help at the time. Does this means that Natsu was weaker than Aria? Nope, just that Natsu wasn't aware of his abilities and could be caught off guard like Makarov, though Aria still performed well against him. But Aria may have been stronger than Gray whose matchup was just Juvia who is objectively weaker than Aria at this arc.

Tower of Heaven: Gajeel>Gray

Gajeel was absent in the arc while Gray fought Fukuro. Fukuro may have a similar feat to Aria by almost winning against Natsu, but there are differences between them. Fukuro almost defeated Natsu by nerfing him with a mini rocket, Natsu dragon slayer disease nerfed him so Fukuro almost defeated him. While against Aria wasn't even using his full power against Natsu when he almost defeated him. What i want to say is that Aria is arguably stronger than Fukuro and Gray may not even ahve surpassed Aria here. We may assume that Gray surpassed Aria here though i wouldn't say that he surpassed or equalized Gajeel due to next arcs.

Battle of Fairy Tail: Gajeel>Gray

Gray jobbed to Bickslow while Gajeel supported Natsu against Laxus. The difference in portrayal here is clear, Gajeel was portrayed to be closer to Natsu than Gray and that's also helped me define the previous and next arc.

Oracion Seis arc: Gajeel>Gray

Gajeel was absent while Gray fought Racer. But Gray fought Racer WITH Lyon. Gray needed help to fight someone was not even top 3 of the OS, while Natsu by himself was around Cobra level. Even if Gajeel was weaker than Natsu, he still should be closer to Natsu and Cobra than Gray by seeing his performance against Racer.

Edolas arc: Gajeel>Gray

Fighting sugarboy don't upscales anyone, fighting Lily neither, but being a support against the arc boss of the arc is a better portrayal then Gajeel keeps the leading.

Tenrou arc: Gray>Gajeel

Gajeel performance was so bad while Gray seemed to really have got a power growth here that i can finally say that Gray surpassed Gajeel

Grand Magic Games: Gajeel>Gray

In the GMG Gajeel becomes stronger again. Even at base he was solidly stronger than Rogue while Gray was not that stronger than Rufus and no, there is no ranking putting Rufus above Rogue during GMG. You could say that there is nothing putting Rogue above Rufus either, but assuming they were around the same level Gajeel would be stronger than Gray even at base. With ISDM he simply becomes much stronger than Gray and closer to the S Ckass mages like Erza and probably already surpassed Mira.

Tartarus: Gray>Gajeel

Gray turned the tides with devil slayer magic. Like i said, fighting the arc boss will always give you better portaryal in this rivalry.

Alvarez: Gray>Gajeel

Gray already got a similar feat to Gajeel beating Invel like Gajeel beaten Bloodman and then he got even stronger fighting END putting Gray as stronger than Gajeel at both peaks in original series.

In 100 Years Quest i will just say that this rivalry was similar to original series where Gray is weaker than Gajeel for most of the time, but ends the series solidly stronger than Gajeel. Gray was a jobber for most of 100YQ, but in current arc he had a power growth that puts him definitely as stronger than Gajeel.

Someone asked for a digimon version of the viltrumites image which inspired me to try to make it and honestly this was my best attempt.
