Hey guys! Hope that you’re all doing well! So this is my third post on this sub, the first was asking about the Shadow Maul coupler if there were any replacements, and while you guys provided very valuable feedback it seemed at the time that there weren’t any replacements or options out there. So, I waited for the May 4th release, and picked up the Limited Edition Maul set, largely cause I love the character, but also so I could get a coupler and recreate it in CAD. That’s when I posted my second post, complaining about the LE set, LOL but I got what I wanted out of it anyways, so it was worth it for me.

It took me 4 different iterations, but I got the coupler to look and fit how I wanted it to, and it all fits tightly with no creaking or wobbling! I wanted to try and account for the fact that this is plastic and not metal, so I slightly increased the tolerances on things so the plastic wouldn’t break from tightening and un-tightening the coupler. I printed this all in PLA and it feels great, but a stronger material might be better for long term play and use idk yet I haven’t really tested it to its limits yet, so I’m open to any and all suggestions and feedback!! (Note: this only works with the Shadow Maul hilt + Legacy Maul hilt, and not 2 Legacy Maul hilts, due to the design of the connector itself being specific for the Shadow Maul hilt. Will also work with the Asajj Reformed Hilt as it’s exactly the same thing).

First off let me preface by saying I knew what I was getting into buying this set. I knew the box was cardboard, I knew it wasn’t as special as the other box sets, I bought it anyways because Maul is my second favorite Sith character (behind Vader ofc) and I really enjoyed the Shadow Lord show. I also needed a SM coupler that I’m hoping to now CAD up and 3D print for the rest of the community that might be missing your SM coupler. So for me, this purchase still made sense.

I bought this set on May 4th, and it just came in the mail today! In terms of the hilts themselves, they are absolutely stunning with their weathering, and am really happy with how they look. Can’t wait to play with them. But everything else was just so underwhelming for me. This is my second box set, my first being the Clone Wars LE set. The design of the Shadow Lord box itself is spectacular, but the quality just isn’t the same as the wooden crates obviously. When you open it, you’re greeted to this low-quality image of Maul. And I mean LOW QUALITY. Like screenshot from the show on a 480P monitor levels of low quality. This really upset me since not only is the show itself BEAUTIFUL and CRISPY with its updated animation style, but I was actually looking forward to displaying it along with the hilts. Now I’m inclined to just leave it in the box. Having a numbered card is nice, but leaving it floating around instead of being attached to the box is just so underwhelming (again, I knew this already before buying the box, but seeing it in person compared to the Clone Wars set didn’t excite me as much).

I’ll re-emphasize this, I know a LOT of people already made the conscious decision to skip this set because of the box. That wasn’t enough to deter me..but seeing that low quality image of Maul staring at me in the face as soon as I opened my box just disappointed me. I am still going to enjoy the sabers though and seeing everything on display with the rest of my collection!

Hey guys! I just started a Legacy Lightsaber collection and just picked up this shadow maul hilt! It looks great and I got it for a great price, but part of that price factored in its missing coupler connector piece that connects to the other Maul hilt. This wasn’t a dealbreaker for me at the time, but now I’m curious if anyone knows where I can source the connector/get a custom one made?
