How to know my opponent's position when I am hitting the shot

I was beaten today in a humiliating fashion. By the fifth game, I had exhausted my opponent to the point that he was barely moving, but I still could not hit winners because I did not know where he was positioned behind me. He exploited this weakness from the beginning, by standing behind the T, knowing that I was going to hit my shots deep.

How do I know on every shot, WHEN I AM HITTING THE SHOT, where my opponent is standing?

Do I need to play the ball late, so I can square my chest towards the wall and allow myself to get the glimpse of the opponent? I can't think of anything else.
