If you transferred to CSU, what was your experience like after?

Considering community college for the first 1.5 years and then transfer in the spring of sophomore year to Warner College of Natural Resources. Concerned about being behind on connections and being like an ‘outsider’ since I wouldn’t have started the first year with others in my program. Or missing out on internship/program opportunities that are important for natural resources. Any other concerns you had as a transfer that ended being irrelevant or things that you didn’t think about?

Any tips on making the most of community college prior to transferring?

Fort Lewis is more interdisciplinary and only environmental science and CSU has more rigorous degree for a number of envinronmental science degree options. Is the cheaper smaller school that feels less structured that much of a worse option than the rigor of CSU? The graduation rates and job security rates after graduation for fort lewis are pretty abysmal, but thats the college as a whole. Ive read the professors are good and the relationships you can create with them there is great, but it just feels less serious? but maybe thats a good thing for kid that tends to be on the shy side, but is motivated and has had a successful high school experience with grades, environmental summer work, and volunteering.

CSU just seems more secure, but there are cons that come with that security and just dont know if its worth it..

Evluating two radically different options in CSU for Natural Resources Management and Fort Lewis for Environmental Science.

One of the biggest concerns is the size differnce. Fort lewis is total of about 4000 students and class sizes will be much smaller and intimate. Not taught by TAs and get close with your professors and students in same degree because it is a smaller group. However, CSU is definitely better academically. So much more structure and connection(greater competition), but concerned about the size and not finding group or fitting in. As well as larger classes and not getting the professor interaction you can get at a smaller school.
