I finished the game and I think more should follow
I heard little about Esoteric Ebb starting out but I was very suprised as to how good it turned out and that it actually lived up to the praises. The dialogue is sharply written and also mostly easy to follow and also very fucking funny. Humour I think is often neglected in games so it is nice to see when developers pay so much attention to it. I also liked all the roleplay elements in the game, as compared to an actual DnD session games have more strict limitations obviously but here I felt like if there was something I wanted to do or say 9 times out of 10 I was able to do so which was very good. The lore of the world and its culture and history was also phenomenal I played with high INT so I read every fucking pop up there was. I am glad they put so much effort in designing the history of it all and cant wait to explore other places around the world especially the wastes cause they remind me of Kenshi. Also the soundtrack is fucking amazing very esoterical.
One thing I was worried while playing the game is that I felt like some political stances were more favoured than others or that some were just considered jokes. Even if I don't agree with something I thought that it would be better if those ideas weren't considered so loosely.
After finishing the game I think that it wasn't really the intention of the game to take any political stance, rather a philosophical one. The whole nature of the strings and probability (which is another element from DnD that has been integrated into a narrative perfectly) shows how our decisions and what we do influence the world around us for better or worse. It is in us to think about the future and strive for the best possible outcome. Or maybe the outcome sometimes isn't worth the effort to truly be achieved. Either way it is always a 50/50 weather we succeed or not but we still have to make those decisions. Sitting docile and allowing the world to simply exist without our involvement is the worst possible outcome. Truly the actual villain of the story is inactivity.
Ettir's character growth shows this the best I think and I was so glad that my favourite girl got so much love put into her and I will be excited to see her more in the future (sidenote: its funny how they selected Polish as the celestial language but when I looked at all the people working on the game I quickly understood why I am not complaining tho its nice to understand the language of gods). The Cleric, sorry, I meant The Wizard, was also amazing as a player character and a seprete character. It is rare for these to to mix so well (I litterly can only think of Geralt and maybe the courier?) but Esoteric Ebb did a great job with that. Overall I think it is so far one of the best games that has come out this year and certainly one of the best RPG's I have ever played. I can't say that it is in my top 10 but maybe the flow of time will change my feelings. Thank you for reading my ramblings now excuse me for I have a date scheduled with an angel.
