northamptonsaints.co.ukNelson captains Scotland as one of five Lightning players in squad to face France
Helen Nelson captains Scotland this weekend against France as one of five Loughborough Lightning players selected in the matchday squad.
Scotland are without former Lightning forward Malcolm for the Hive Stadium encounter on Saturday (kick-off 4.15pm), meaning Nelson steps up from her vice role to lead her country in the Round 4 match.
The fly-half is partnered once more in the half-back positions by club mate Leia Brebner-Holden, who is picked at scrum-half.
Elis Martin earns her first start for club or country since the World Cup as she packs down at hooker, in a forward pack that features Becky Boyd at No.8. Completing the Lightning quintet is Lucia Scott, who is named amongst the replacements.
>Alex Coles is back training fully.
> Kundiona is seeing a specialist.
>JJ VDM is back Training.
> Pearson is not quite training fully, but training.
> Langdon, who had surgery on a thumb problem picked up in the defeat at Bath, said: "I fractured my thumb, it’s called a Bennett’s fracture and because of that break it was unstable so it kept dislocating, which obviously made it quite tough to throw and try to continue. "I did it when (Tom) Dunn scored his tap-and-go try and I thought I’d just bent my thumb back but after trying to throw a few lineouts and trying to get a bind at scrum time, I realised it was dislocated because of the break. "We tried putting it back in and strapping it up but we couldn't. "It wasn’t a big fix. I had a screw put in up in Manchester. Mike Hayton is the best hand surgeon there is and he’s happy with it so the recovery is not long and I’ll be back out there again this season, if Dows picks me.”
>"James Ramm has been running today. I saw him on the side of the pitch."We're obviously very conservative around soft tissue stuff, particularly with a winger, so we're looking after James but he's moving around and he's on the mend."
>George Furbank had to miss the Gallagher PREM win against Bath last time out due to a retrospective head injury assessment after the victory at Exeter Chiefs. But the club captain appears on track to return this weekend.
>Tom James has been working his way back from injury, but Trevor Davison and Edoardo Todaro are out for the rest of the season.
Lightning’s Helena Rowland will earn her 50th England cap against Italy in Round 4 of the Guinness Women’s Six Nations this Saturday (9 May, kick-off: 2pm) at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, with Haineala Lutui set to come off the bench.
The versatile back is yet to lose a game in international colours as she brings up half a century of appearances this weekend. Rowland debuted for England at the same stadium in Parma back in November 2020 and has accumulated 186 points for her country to date.
Lightning’s Lutui is set to earn her fourth cap from the bench once again this weekend, while Saida Kabeya and Lilli Ives Campion both remain in international camp to continue their rehabilitation.
