
They wanna increase my rent but Rental Index says not applicable. What should I do?
My current rent is AED 58,000, paid in four installments. My landlord initially charged me AED 69,000 for the new rent, plus a AED 2,500 renewal fee and a AED 3,000 MEP fee.
I am not obligated to pay the MEP fee (by contract anything above AED 700 is on the landlord), so I will not. However, I am also disputing that they are not allowed to increase the rent according to the RERA Index. They have offered me AED 61,000 as their last offer, but I still feel that I am not obligated to accept.
I would like to know if there are any legal ways for me to address this situation at this point.
