[Western Washington state] I don't have an audio, but read desc...

theres this animal I hear randomly during the daytime that I cant seem to get a recording of. I hear it quite rarely but it does call out every so often, and I'm completely stumped as to what it could be, maybe a farm animal? the only thing I can imagine it being is a bird, but it doesn't even really sound like a bird.

the animal's call is kind of high pitched, but not super high, it's just a little bit above the line between high and low. the animal goes like "oo-WAHH-woo, oo-WAHH-woo", and every time it calls it makes that sound twice then goes quiet for a few seconds. it sounds like a rather small animal, but I can hear it from kind of far away.

fossils that were given to me

itd be cool if some of these could be identified! I don't know where any of them came from, but I am in Washington state, if that helps. not expecting every single one of them to be identified!

does anyone have some good tips on when/where to find bones (specifically skulls)?

Ive found plenty of elk and deer bones in the past couple days, but not a single skull to be found... or at least, not a whole one. I found the veryyy back of an elk skull, as well as another one that was a bit larger, but no whole skulls.

does anyone know any spots in western Washington that are good for finding bones? more specifically Grays harbor... some more unexplored land that people don't look in? and also, what are some other good places to look? I'm thinking maybe looking around large rotten tree stumps for smaller animal skeletons, but I can't find any.

are there any substitutes to borax crystallizing?

I want to get into crystallizing bones/skulls, and the one way I have heard of doing it is using borax and hot water. but is there anything I can use other than borax, maybe as a cheaper option? Google seems to give mixed opinions, so I just want to ask real people based on what they know.
