Well, I hit 30 years old and realized I’ve never really tried building anything for myself. Here’s my finished racing cockpit, built to use with an office chair. This is my first time using a miter saw, circular saw, half laps, pocket holes, etc.

My limitations were: it had to avoid a horizontal bar that my desk has in the back, I wanted inverted pedals, I wanted to use my office chair, it had to be short enough to slide under my desk for storage, and it had to be no more than 18” wide for storage purposes as well.

For never attempting anything like this before, I dub this one “far from good, but good from afar.” Don’t make fun of it too much. It’s got some quirks like the wonky cross support, whoops. But it was all a learning experience, and I’m excited to try it out.

See second picture for rotational torque that will be applied when using this, and there will be some shear straight back (to the left when looking at second picture) laterally. There will be bolts in the 2x10 (see holes). I do want to use metal 90° reinforcements on the side of the 90° joint, but could use some advice for how to put screws into the 2x10 and 2x4>2x4 if any.

Thank you!
