Unions and flexibility

Now I'm sure this is a case-by-case basis. But from what I understand, unions(and maybe the trades, to some larger extent) allow for longer periods of time off.

For example, if you wanted to travel for a month, or maybe you've got a family emergency to deal with, personal health, etc.

So if you plan right, and go in-between jobs, you can go beyond the 2 weeks of vacation every year.

Yay or nay?

So on my last host, I was DEEPLY disturbed the way the primary host treated her step kids.

I'm not entirely sure what constitutes as abuse in a home, but I'm pretty sure asking a 14 yo if they're "fucking stupid" counts.(Ask away, I can think of other examples of her grinding that kid's self esteem dow to the atomic level)

I even tried recording some of their interactions, but never got much good proof.

I was deeply anxious when she spoke to those kids, and by some extension, when we were working together.

Aside from that, the work was pretty reasonable, and I was fed, with a fairly comfortable room.

Never felt the need to report a host before

Lmk your thoughts.

I was looking at different WHV, and when checking last year, I remember Italy, Ireland, and Canada had options for up to 35, but I don't see them anymore.

Is that still the case? If not, are you just out of luck after 30?
