Swing looks stiff, hips getting sore

I look stiff as fuck when I swing. I’ve taken about 8 lessons so far, I’ve improved but not as fast as I feel like I should. A few lessons ago my coach and I worked on feeling tension in your right leg, basically loading it when your twist and feeling your hips, and quads ‘lock’ in assuming it was to get the separation feeling but ever since changing to do that it feels like I’ve been having a hip injury in the front hip flexor. Wha can I do differently?
