Planetary Assault Systems - Angel of the East

Planetary Assault Systems - Angel of the East

Best intro I know.

More of a question: does anybody know some album which has the concept of Arc Angel or The Messenger by PAS?

I mean like alternating experimental tracks with a cohesive kind of sound so as to make a journey album to listen to with yes closed. Kind of like the dark side of the Moon of Techno.

His last album (Planetary People) has bangers in it, but to me sounds more like a compilation than an album like those two

Is It really necessary/productive cutting off the extreme sub frequencies in a mix?

Maybe I'm saying heresy but really I never got the sound I wanted by doing this.

I almost never do It, It lacks...depth. It's also true that I mix and master on some Marshall Major 4 headphones and a very simple Yuri trust speakers with a little subwoofer, so no ideal monitoring. I've never listened to something mine on a PA system also. The Marshall are pretty bass heavy tho so I think I can get and idea of the bass.

But really even listening to some reference tracks they don't sound like there were a hp filter on the subs (Kray Squid - Planetary Assault Systems comes to mind)

Also It makes a weird effect where if the mastering was good and didn't hit the threshold very hard and sounds nice, if I put a hp on the master at frequencies <30 Hz say, the peaks of the drums become much more peaky so the mix "suffers" more on the compression but sounds a bit "empty" anyway.

Opinione, advice?

I have a numark pt01 scratch and the Stanton. The Stanton Is soooo good but if (when) It will break it will be bad because afaik Its not longer sold. I really cant DIY electronics. Same reason I cant mod. I don't even know if mods ship to Europe without being super more costly or if they do at all.

I know there Is not a clear cut answer, but in your experience would vinyls/electronics stores be able to repair the Stanton STX just in case? I'd really want to keep It.

The only real alternatives within budget are the wow&flutter and the reloop spin but the wow&flutter Is difficult to get according to what I've read, and the reloop has a mediocre fader because of a 2-3mm cut threshold.

I'd get the reloop spin but the fader would be very difficult to adapt to, I'd have to stick some kind of obstacle at the dead end of the fader but It would be super messy and/or borderline impossible for consistent results.

Suggestions?
