Which of these would make a better stave

The log on the left is ~4’10 at the saw mark, I figure it’s a better piece but I wonder if the length is a problem as I’m brand new.

I want to change over to Motorola, I’m tired of dealing with Apple and it seems like there are some pretty good Motorolas. Do you guys have any suggestions, preferably something a little tougher because I work in a metal shop.

I know I’m not going to be using the wood anytime soon, but I have access to a nice sized black locust tree and I was wondering if I should go ahead and process the tree or leave it alone right now. I also bought seeds for the tree so I can plant and maybe way later get nice working size pieces of wood.
