First time in Shanghai for 2-month medical stay (need advice & support)
Hello everyone,
I will be traveling to Shanghai for the first time this July and will stay for around 2 months for medical treatment.
I am 22 years old, but I will be admitted to Shanghai Children’s Medical Center under special permission, as my treating doctor works there.
I have a rare genetic condition called epidermolysis bullosa (EB), which severely affects my skin and has caused significant hand deformation. I will undergo staged reconstructive surgery on both hands, with recovery time in between surgeries.
Since this is my first time in China, and i dont know chinese, i think i will struggle little bit so I am trying to prepare as best as possible.
I would really appreciate any advice or help regarding:
Safe and affordable accommodation near Shanghai Children’s Medical Center
Transportation options for someone with limited hand function
English-speaking expat or patient support in Shanghai
Any hospitals/areas I should be aware of during recovery
General tips for living in Shanghai for 2 months as a foreign medical patient
Any local expat or support communities
I will cover my medical expenses and part of my stay, but my budget will become limited after treatment, so any affordable suggestions would really help.
If anyone has experience with long-term medical stays in Shanghai or can offer guidance, I would be very grateful.
Thank you for reading and for any help you can provide.
