Dual DNS Setup: DoT on Android System + DoH on Chrome. Is it safe/efficient?

Hi everyone,

I’m an Android user currently running a "split" DNS configuration and I want to make sure I’m not breaking anything.

  • System level: I’m using DoT (DNS over TLS) via AdGuard in the Android Private DNS settings.
  • Browser level: I’m using DoH (DNS over HTTPS) within Google Chrome's settings.

I live in a country with strict DNS-based censorship. Interestingly, when I only use DoT at the system level, sites like Reddit remain blocked. However, once I enable DoH inside Chrome, I can bypass the restrictions easily.

I have a few questions:

  1. Is it safe to use two different protocols (DoT and DoH) simultaneously?
  2. Will this cause any system conflicts, latency issues, or excessive battery drain?
  3. Why does DoH in the browser successfully bypass the block while the system-wide DoT fails, even though both might be pointed at the same provider?

I'd appreciate any insights or technical explanations. Thanks!
