Kangaroo? Pig? Dog? Something else?

Hi :)

I found this a few months ago in a dry creek bed in the Southern Flinders Ranges.

I made a post on r/fossils because google told me it may be partially fossilised but general consensus is its recent. It was suggested it may be a macropod, pig or canine of some sort. Human was also suggested by someone.

I can see some similarities with all 3 animals but they’re all a little off with the teeth. Red Kangaroo seems the closet out of all them.

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Fellow Australians - Have you been to any ‘Australian’ themed restaurants OS?

I’ve just seen this post and it’s blown my mind. I’m guessing it’s meant to be pub food but there’s nothing Australian about it. The menu in the post is old but the chain appears to be somehow going strong today.

It made me wonder if there’s other similar abominations floating around out there.

Have you been to one?
Was there anything somewhat ‘authentic’ or was it a shit show?

There’s so many things wrong with the menu in the post but a few things stood out, stupid random place name use aside. Looking at you, Toowoomba pasta - wtf?!

There’s pickles and buffalo sauce everywhere. There’s no options for egg, beetroot, bacon or pineapple on the burgers. There’s pork chops instead of lamb.

The icing on the cake is the ‘Drover’s’ platter that has ribs, chicken and fucking cinnamon apples. The ‘Bushranger’s choice’, allegedly.

Accidental fossil find? Southern Flinders Ranges,South Australia.

I found this a few month ago in a dry creek bed . When I picked it up, I thought it was a bit of sheep jaw which while not ground breaking, was a pretty cool find to me.

I just ran some photos through google lens and to my surprise, it kept saying it was either partially fossilised or fossilised cow or pig jaw, depending on the photo. When I added the location, it changed to kangaroo or wallaby and suggested I contact the museum.

Obviously it isn’t 100% reliable but I really wasn’t expecting it to be anything other than a farm animal, let alone a possible fossil.

I thought it’d be best to get some other opinions first to make sure I’m not wasting the museum’s time. If there’s even a slim chance it is though, I’ll be taking it in to make sure.

Now looking at it more closely, It does seem to be heavier than what I would expect a dry bone to be. There’s also a sparkly section and a sheen to it that I didn’t notice when I picked it up (photos 3&4)

It weighs 22gms and is approx 7cm in length. Each tooth is approx 1cm in length.

Curious to hear your thoughts!
